In short, MDOT’s requirement for the City to rebid the construction engineering contract delayed the projected construction contract award date approximately 2 months from April to June. The previous engineering firm won the new contract. These are the types of unexpected delays that are impossible to predict but cause significant delays. In order to keep the process moving forward, we have to comply.

During my time on the Council, the Orange Grove area has received good support from the Council and Administration on completing and upgrading water and sewer services to the Orange Grove area. There’s a good chance that you’ve been impacted by these projects or, at least, heard about the impacts on the news…even recently. Thank you for being patient with us as we make this progress. We’re whittling down the number of unserviced areas, and the Council has been very supportive of completing this effort. It’s an inconvenience, no doubt. But our community deserves the fulfillment of these decades old promises.

The final construction punch list is being worked now.

Mays Road Water Lines

This project installed around 4,000 linear feet of 8″ water main and all services. This work was performed in-house by our Public Works crews. The total cost of the project is approximately $100,000.

This project is 98% complete with only one final tie-in remaining.

Cold Springs Road & Glen Cove Water and Sewer Project

This project installed around 500 linear feet of 8″ water main, 8″ sewer main, and all services. This work was performed in-house by our Public Works crews. The total cost of the project is approximately $100,000.

This construction portion of the project is complete, and Publics Works told me that the roads are scheduled to be paved within the next two weeks.

Tree Trimming by Mississippi Power

Mississippi Power has informed the City’s arborist that they plan to continue their current tree trimming efforts and start two Orange Grove circuits sometime next week, starting at the Hwy 53 substation.

Please be aware that the power company has the right and responsibility to keep trees clear of power lines in their easements so that you and your neighbors maintain electrical service. However, they also have the responsibility to be a good corporate community partner and treat your property with respect. If you have any issues arising from work done by tree trimming crews, please call the City at 311 or email 311@gulfport-ms.gov.
