Streets Improvements Recently Completed

Malfunction Junction Addressed
If you drive SR 605, Tuesday, you may have noticed that MDOT installed a much needed traffic safety feature at the intersection of Helen Richards Road just north of I-10.

In the last five years there have been approximately 74 crashes at that intersection, most of which were angle type crashes (the type reduced by Directional Medians).

The newly installed Directional Median boundaries reduce the 18 major conflict points to only 4.

SR 605-Helen Richards Rd Intersection

The newly installed flexible delineators require traffic to exit Helen Richards Road using the frontage road on the east or make a southbound turn from the west side. All cross traffic is prohibited. U-turns are allowed at the signalized intersections at Dedeaux Road and at I-10 in dedicated turn lanes.

Please thank Kris Riemann, City Engineer; Kelly Castleberry, MDOT District Engineer; and MDOT for designing, approving, funding, and installing this safety feature.

O’Neal Road Paved
The section of O’Neal Road between Three Rivers Road and John Ross Road is paved. Striping and a few punch list items remain.

Speeding on the newly paved section has already become a problem. Please be advised, the speed limit is 35 mph, and Police Chief Leonard Papania has promised increased patrols and enforcement in that area.

Please thank A. Garner Russell & Associates for engineering and Land Shapers Inc. for asphalt paving on this project. We look forward to this section of road lasting a long time and supporting future growth in that area.
